How To Have The Best Lawn In The Neighborhood
One thing that can make or break the look of your house is what your lawn looks like. Quite often it is the first thing that is noticed when someone drives up, especially for the first time. Here are some tips that will help that first impression be a good one.

To get your lawn in good shape for the coming season, one of the best things you can do is to get rid of any debris. Over the winter, things get accumulated in your yard such as rocks and branches. The grass will have room to grow when you remove them. Not only that, without the debris, there won't be anything for your mower to hit, preventing a safety hazard. Don't put too much fertilizer on your yard, especially nitrogen. In the spring is when most people put fertilizer on their lawn, and for many it is high amounts of nitrogen-based fertilizer. This can lead to a problem, because often it can do a lot of damage to the grass. Before using nitrogen, you should wait until there is no frost in the ground, and you should have mowed several times.

What you should use instead when you fertilize in the spring, is a controlled-released fertilizer. Rather than fertilize all at once, it would be best to find one that releases nutrients over time. You don't want your grass to grow all at once, but slowly over time. A good time to start weeding out crabgrass is in early May. It starts to root somewhere near the middle of May, in most parts of the country, so before that time you should apply any anti-crabgrass formula you are planning on. Depending on where you live, and what the climate is, the crabgrass could show up earlier. Because of this, you may need to adjust when you use the formula.

The best time to seed your lawn is not during the springtime, but in the fall. You might think that the grass would not do well in winter, but the hot weather in summer is more damaging. This year try seeding before winter, and see if you get better results. You need to know your location and climate, to know what to put on your lawn that has the right nutrients. You should be able to find this all out at your local gardening center. Your yard needs a balanced formula that has all of the ingredients that your grass needs. Some minerals are added to a fertilizer, but they aren't needed for all types of grass.

The goal with your lawn is to get it the darkest color you can. With this as your goal, your will know how well you are progressing. It may take several growing seasons to get the right approach, but your efforts will be rewarded. Soon you will have the best yard in the neighborhood.
